Saved

“Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).

Saved…from what?

1) Saved from sin’s guilt. “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1),

2) Saved from sin’s power. “… For sin will have no dominion over you” (Romans 6:14), and

3) Saved from sin’s presence in heaven for all eternity. “…we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is” (John 6:14).

Then, why doesn’t everyone believe? It’s all good. Why not?

Because for some it is too easy. They are proud. They want to do something themselves. So they refuse God’s gift of Jesus.

And for others it is too difficult. They love their sins. They don’t want to repent and turn to Jesus for a new and righteous life.

Both these classes of people suffer the same consequences:

1) A guilty conscience for their sins,

2) Slavery to sin’s power, and

3) Eternity in hell as punishment of sin.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

Notice: “…the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Eternal life is different than the life we have originally. It begins when we believe and goes on forever.

Jesus said, “… I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).

And he promised, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live” (John 11:25).
